De Kloof restaurant is excited to announce the appointment of Chef Wessel van Jaarsveld as Executive chef of De Kloof Restaurant and its newly established, relaxed bother, DK Burger. Pretoria born van Jaarsveld brings with him a wealth of experience at celebrated restaurants across the UK, including a stint working under world renowned Michelin star restaurateur and author Stephen Bull.
Chef van Jaarsveld describes his food philosophy and style as follows:
“… to respect the ingredient by using sustainable local produce. By supporting local producers we improve the product quality and creativity. I also support the principal of nose to tail eating. Having a dish that utilizes different parts of the same animal teaches us about different textures and cooking techniques. I see my style of cooking as a relentless pursuit of perfection.”
Chef van Jaarsveld has helped the restaurants where he’s worked to achieve high profile accolades including spots on the Guardian’s Top 10 UK restaurants list and AA Rosettes from 2007 to 2012.
Chef van Jaarsveld takes over the De Kloof kitchen on 1 May with the inaugural wine dinner under his stewardship taking place on Thursday 23 May 2013. It will be an Avondale Gourmet dinner with Jonathan Grieve, based on the lunar tasting calendar.
As we say hello to one we must bid farewell to the other. Chef Leanne Roberts will pursue an exciting entrepreneurial venture by establishing a catering company specialising in high-end catering. We wish her well for the future, and acknowledge and thank her for the important role that she has played in establishing De Kloof as one of the top restaurants in Gauteng in less than eighteen months. We have no doubt that she will succeed in her new venture, and we have established a basis for on-going future collaboration on high profile projects.
