Discover Delicious, the V&A Waterfront’s winter restaurant campaigne, is back again after its successful inaugural year in 2013. It has been tweaked a little, but the premise is the same – instead of staying indoors all winter, take advantage of the Waterfront restaurant specials while simultaneously standing the chance to win big!
This year, every time you eat out at the waterfront, you’ll be offered an entry form. Fill it out, attach your bill to it and drop it into the assigned box. Once you have done this on 3 separate occasions, you will be entered into a weekly draw to win R5000. The specials run until 17 August 2014.

On Friday, 12 June, I was fortunate enough to attend the V&A Waterfront Discover Delicious Winter Specials launch. The event was held at the V&A Market on the Wharf, near Noble Square and in front of the Two Oceans Aquarium. The Market on the Wharf is housed in what used to be the Musica store, now a large warehouse-style building filled with culinary delights. The market is set on 3 levels and is very spacious. Tables and chairs are spotted here and there, allowing diners to wander around at their own leisure or to sit down to eat their chosen dish.
A long staircase leads visitors up the mezzanine levels and provides a great view of the entire market. The food on offer is varied and includes American corn dogs, charcuturie, Cape Malay cuisine, cheeses, empanadas, freshly squeezed juices, salads, Belgian waffles & chocolates, baked goods, Mexican dishes, Indian tandoor cuisine, tapas, coffee, sushi, pizzas, burgers and deluxe sandwiches.
Upon arrival at the launch, I was welcomed and handed a glass of white wine sponsored by Groot Constantia. Two long tables stretched across the top mezzanine level and were beautifully decorated with flowers, water jugs filled with fresh fruit, platters of fresh breads and interesting spreads – these included a butternut spread and a blue cheese and walnut spread.
The Waterfront marketing team welcomed us all and informed us about the Winter Specials and the competition. We were then served a delicious, healthy lunch from the buffet which included ingredients such as calamari, butternut, olives, crisp asparagus, sliced beef fillet with parmesan. To end the lunch, we were served milk tart spring rolls – a favourite memory from those that attended the launch in 2013 – among other things.
The launch provided us with an opportunity to taste some delightful food, to network with others in the same industry and to hear all about the winter specials campaign that the V&A Waterfront has on offer this winter.
