StreetSmart South Africa is proud to announce their top five contributing restaurants of 2015. Making the cut are three Cape Town and two Johannesburg eateries who managed to raise over R1 million in donations.
Says Mari Vigar, co-owner of La Mouette, the top achieving restaurant in 2015: “We are humbled and honoured by the overwhelming support we have received from our patrons to be able to make a contribution to a cause we believe in this much…with just one contribution at a time, you can change someone’s life forever“.
The non-profit and public-benefit organisation, established in 2005, was commandeered by a group of Cape Town residents who expressed concern over the plight of South Africa’s street children. The aims of StreetSmart are to get kids off the streets and to transform their lives for the better. This is done by providing education, skills and training in order to rehabilitate these individuals back into society.
Participating restaurants simply add a voluntary R5 donation to the bill, encouraging diners to change the lives of those who are in need. South Africans looking for a night out on the town are encouraged to choose a restaurant associated with the initiative. Dig deep into your pockets for that spare change and be a part of a worthwhile cause!
