On the 10th of May, Wild Clover Farm in Stellenbosch will once again play host to the Hops Harvest Festival – a celebration for the close of the harvest season. This year marks the second annual festival, proof of the inaugural festival’s success. The event is being held in conjunction with 4Leaf Agency.
As the name might suggest, at the heart of the harvest festival is beer – craft beer to be precise. Visitors can expect to sample a broad variety of beers, ales and ciders from breweries such as Birkenhead, Boston, Red Sky, Apollo, Lakeside, Stella Artois, Marais and of course the farm’s very own Wild Clover Brewery. Wild Clover’s beers on display include an English Ale, an Irish Porter, a German Pils and a fruity Belgian Wit.
While the festival embraces hand-crafted beer, this is emphatically a family-friendly event. Parents can sample the beers and wines and kids can lose themselves in the children’s entertainment zone. When hunger strikes, there will be a choice between pizzas, burgers and the novel wild boar spit, all of which can be enjoyed in the shaded seated area while the sound of the live bands’ music floats through the airwaves.
“We are excited to be hosting the Festival for the second year”, says Ampie Kruger, owner and brewer at the Wild Clover Brewery. “As many of the Cape’s beer festivals are typically held in the City Center and Southern Suburbs, the Hops Harvest Festival offers visitors from the North the opportunity to sample some of the country’s finest craft beers. We look forward to a day of great beer, music, food and company!”
It goes without saying that while it’s convenient for those based in Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs, it is a great day trip for anyone residing in Cape Town.
