Ryan’s Kitchen in the beautiful Franschhoek valley, together with Black Elephant Vintners, has recently launched a unique seven course menu in the Black Elephant Vintners ‘Tasting Studio’. This menu is available every Monday to Saturday from 12h00 – 15h30, patrons have the option of a four or seven course menu, created exclusively by Chef Ryan Smith.
Ryan’s Kitchen was established by owners, Ryan and Lane Smith. Their ‘make art on a plate’, approach to the cuisine offered is evident in both its innovative taste and appearance. The secret behind the restaurant’s success is Ryan’s hands-on approach and unbridled passion for cooking as the Head Chef.
The owners of Black Elephant Vinters , Kevin Swart, seasoned Wine Maker, and Viticulturist Jacques Wentzel, are known for shaking things up in the wine scene. They have introduced fun into the art of winemaking, and are all about doing things a bit differently to the rest. Trying a red wine with fish or pairing your wine with music (aptly named Wine Unplugged featured in their cellar) are just a few examples of their alternative nature in pushing the boundaries of the wine culture and their aim to take the pomp and ceremony out of wine making. “We’ve chosen to take the pomp and ceremony out of winemaking; focusing on demystifying the process for all enthusiasts and injecting true enjoyment into every sip of wine,” says Swart. “Our wines represent our sincerest endeavours to bring the Franschhoek experience to all wine lovers around the globe for the sole purpose of enjoyment and as an expression of our appreciation for our good life.”
These individuals have teamed up to create a once in a life time food and wine extravaganza. The four or seven course menu was designed to be enjoyed between wine tastings, and patrons have an option of either menu, coupled with specific wines to complement each dish, or they may opt for the wine tasting on its own. With Black Elephant Vintners superb skills and experience in wine making and Chef Ryan Smiths’ amazing ability to create culinary masterpieces, their food and wine pairings are guaranteed to keep you coming back for more.
The menu features twists on old favourites, such as Amistad Syrah served with braised lamb rib, served with roasted peanuts and spices, and adventurous takes on new ones such as the Black Elephant Vintners MCC served with an octopus apple ceviche, a truly indulgent experience.

The four wine tasters menu option costs R75 and R235 (per person) if served with the lunch menu and the seven wine tasters menu cost R125 and R330 (per person) with the lunch menu.
