The Johannesburg restaurant scene has a new kid on the block: Toni`s Fully Furnished Pizza Company has opened its doors in Craighall Park.

The original Toni’s is a family-run affair in nearby Pretoria, renowned for their gourmet twist on the traditional pizza, and the inspiring taste combinations they pull together. They were also among the first people to bring South Africans the decadent dessert pizza, a novel experience to say the least.

Given Toni’s success in Pretoria, it wasn’t long before a group of four friends saw the opportunity to open a Toni`s in Johannesburg. That is just what they did, and now even more Gauteng-based food lovers can sample the pizza delights at Toni’s Fully Furnished Pizza Company.

“Weekend markets, food exhibitions and food shows have created a heightened interest in food, making it the perfect time to launch a gourmet family pizza restaurant such as Toni’s in JHB,” says co-owner JJ de Villiers, explaining the rationale behind Toni`s in Craighall Park.

He elaborates by saying, that “Those who enjoy dining out are no longer content with a run-of-the-mill restaurant with average food, in an atmosphere that lacks character. Instead food lovers are seeking an authentic restaurant with a fascinating menu and delicious dishes.”

The pioneer Toni’s pizzeria was opened 7 years ago in Rietondale, Pretoria, by Toni herself and her husband. The idea, following a pervasive trend, was for a relaxed eatery where friends and family could gather comfortably, feel at home and still get to enjoy top class food. People soon latched onto the idea as increasing numbers of patrons flocked through Toni’s doors, despite there being little to no furniture! As the new name, Toni’s Fully Furnished Pizza Company, suggests things have changed somewhat since those early days.

The latest Toni’s franchise is perfectly positioned, both literally and metaphorically, to be a great, convenient neighbourhood eatery which is simultaneously accessible to foodies and laid-back families from northern and central Johannesburg.

Complementing the gourmet pizza offerings is an extensive list of boutique wines, adding a cherry on top to what already promises to be a delicious experience.

De Villiers is hopeful that Toni’s will soon earn its pride of place on the Joburg restaurant scene and enjoy the patronage of its Pretoria-based parent pizza joint.
