A feast of Festive Season flavours at Oude Werf
Oude Werf, the famous landmark in the heart of the historic town Stellenbosch and the South Africa’s oldest inn, is offering a Festive Season feast at its 1802 Restaurant.
Elanie Fourie, General Manager of Oude Werf, says the Christmas Day and New Year’s menus are perfect for food-lovers wishing for a taste of the famous winelands cuisine. “Our chef Albert van der Loo as created a veritable feast of flavours featuring favourite South African dishes and classic French offerings. Whether you’re looking for a delicious Christmas Day lunch or dinner, a mouth-watering New Year’s Eve set menu or a New Year’s Day buffet lunch, our 1802 Restaurant is offering it all.”
Van der Loo, who joined the hotel in July, says the Christmas Day lunch buffet is perfect for both residents and out-of-town guests. “We’re preparing a spread of cold dishes such as fig, pancetta and bocconchini salad and a charcuterie selection, hot dishes such as cucumber and yoghurt soup and Indian style vegetable breyani, a meat selection that includes gammon with honey mustard glaze and roasted turkey with cranberry sauce, and a choice of desserts.” The buffet is R250 per person and booking is essential.
The Christmas Dinner menu was specially designed around non-traditional Christmas dishes, such as butternut and blue cheese gnocchi, pan-fried fish of the day and braised lamb shank with Moroccan couscous, roasted vegetables and demi-glace sauce. “Diners can then tuck into our famous baked cheese cake, widely regarded as the best of the best,” says van der Loo.
On New Year’s Eve, the chef has prepared a six-course set menu that includes fig, salami and watercress tart as a first course, chilled avocado and mint soup, pancetta-wrapped kingklip and stuffed aubergine. “By the fourth course, diners will face the difficult task of choosing between sweet soya glazed Norwegian salmon, Beef Wellington, or crumbed mushroom risotto cakes,” says van der Loo. “Dessert is a choice of triple chocolate ensemble or double lemon delight, followed by coffee or tea and petit fours. It’s the perfect way of heralding the new year with a group of close friends or family.”
The New Year’s Eve set menu feast is priced at only R295 and diners are encouraged to book early to ensure they get a table.
A New Year’s Day buffet is on offer on 1 January 2013, with a selection of hot and cold dishes and a spread of desserts, and is priced at R250 per person.
