Price: Festival tickets: R80 prepaid or R100 at the gate. Concert tickets: R120 for Adults,  R60 for children. Picnic baskets: R250 for 2 adults, R80 for children.

Laborie Wine Farm, one of the oldest wine farms in the Cape Winelands, will once again be hosting the fun-filled Ommiberg Festival at its headquarters in beautiful Paarl.

The program runs from early morning to late evening, providing entertainment for the whole family, all day! You can start out at 9am by sampling some delicious offerings from the Laborie Lazy Days market, where a variety of gourmet breads, cheeses, olives and coffee will be on sale until 14.00. Sound good? And this is just a sideshow.

The main daytime event, at R80 per prepaid ticket and R100 at the gate, is based around a German tradition. That is, the pairing of young, unfiltered wines with onion tart. There will also be a wine blending competition and, for those who like to be really hands on (perhaps feet on is more appropriate) there is a grape stomping competition, which is bound to draw crowds. Awesome prizes are up for grabs for both events.

If you’re a parent and wondering what will become of your little darlings while you’re off sipping wine, eating tart and soaking up the ambience of the Cape Winelands, the answer lies in the kiddies’ area, where a host of minders will be on hand to model balloons and paint little faces.

A game of boules at the Laborie’s Harvest restaurant just about rounds off the daylight activities, but if you’re more of a night-owl, separate tickets are being sold for the live music show. You can catch Mathys Roets and SA Idols winner Anke Pietrangeli in action at 7.30pm (gates open at 6.30pm). The farm will also be selling gourmet picnic baskets to.

If the wine festival itself doesn’t entice you, perhaps Laborie’s famed Methode de Cap bubblie or award-winning Alambic brandy straight from the Cape Winelands will.
