Oude Werf is renowned as the oldest inn in South Africa, and its provenance combined with its location in the heart of the historic town of Stellenbosch, make it a firm favourite among locals and visitors alike. Its age, despite being a draw card, does not prevent innovation and change from occurring though. The latest update is the rebranding of the Oude Werf restaurant: now you can enjoy their culinary delights at Liefde, the revamped and rebranded hotel eatery.
The new-look rebrand has injected a contemporary and fresh feel to the popular restaurant. “We’ve introduced a new colour palette of bright, zesty tones to complement the relaxed, homey feel of our vibrant bistro. Good food, good times and a fantastic atmosphere are what our guests can expect at Liefde,” explains Elanie Fourie, general manager of Oude Werf.
The latest incarnation of the bistro, which seats up to 75 people, is designed to conjure a welcoming, informal ‘modern-meets-vintage’ setting. Because they don’t do things by half measures here, the menu has also received a revamp from chef Albert van der Loo.
“Liefde kos [food] promises something for every taste bud, old and young, big and small. Guests are warmly invited to come along and sample our scrumptious fare,” continues Fourie. “The new menus offer everything from delicious cooked breakfasts to simple light lunches or tasty, decadent dinners. In the hot summer months, dine alfresco under the vines of the shady courtyard patio or relax at the poolside with a cocktail at sundown. In the chillier winter months, long lazy meals set around the cosy fireplace inside cannot be beaten,” she explains.
The bistro has also brought back the popular Sunday lunch buffet where for R125 per person (or R85 for the vegetarian option) diners can tuck into a delicious family feast between 12h00 and 15h00 each Sunday. And as always, Liefde’s sensational food can be teamed with a huge selection of quaffable vintages from the estates of the world-famous winelands region on Oude Werf’s doorstep.
“Light and airy, vibrant and warm is the ambience of our beautiful, contemporary bistro. Come along and experience it for yourself in the heart of Stellenbosch!” concludes Fourie.
